Full restore from external backup

Hello again, I’m slowly restoring from backup my WebODM instance since removing —db-dir deleted all prefs. I noticed that there is an ongoing issue to enable full restore instead of single projects, which would be highly appreciated ofc.

I have two related questions to which I didn’t find answers:

1) what about a full preferences export/import (presets, logo, themes, plugin prefs etc)?

2) i’m setting up an external automatic backup of the “media” folder in which projects are stored, in which I can browse all media (orthos, dsm etc). Let’s imagine that something goes very wrong with my pc and I have to restore a webodm instance on another computer starting from those files. How can I do that? I tried zipping some folders to simulate the backup export but this didn’t do the trick.

Isn’t that true only when you don’t store files on file system?

you need to copy two things to move WebODM between systems. The app media folder and the database.

Hello Piero, I tested the backup from one machine to another and it worked, but it was a little bit tricky. I don't know if it was just me that I'm tired, I moved the db folder from one computer to the other and all settings were transferred (good!) and also the project list; I then moved one of the projects to see if it would catch up and it didn't work. After some brainstorming I noticed that the Activity ID was different from one machine to the other, so I had to figure out which was the project I transferred (had to look to the report.pdf), I changed the folder name according to the new Activity ID assigned in destination folder and moved to the right folder, and it finally worked. So let's say this answers my original question of what I would have to do in the just-in-case scenario.

Can this forced pairing be improved (aka making not required)? Maybe trying to assign the same Activity ID to tasks when moved to the new machine? I understand that folders must be stored by their unique ID, otherwise having two tasks with the same name would make a total mess

Hello, I tested further and tried launching webodm with both —media-dir and —db-dir from a backup and it worked as expected! The problem was that yesterday I booted only with —db-dir and manually copied inside the folder a single project, which was not correctly paired until I changed its folder name and path to match the new ones
